Basic tools all homeowners need

Growing up in a household where we fixed almost everything on our own and DIYed every project, I saw first-hand how rewarding it can be to build, repair, and improve on your own home. In this blog, I want to share some of the most valuable tools that I think all homeowners should keep handy and know how to use.

  1. A measuring tape. Whether you’re replacing cabinets or simply measuring to see how big the new mirror will be, a measuring tape will be one of your most-used tools.

  2. A hammer is essential if you want to handle basic decor like hanging pictures or even do DIY your own patio space. Try to find a hammer with a comfortable grip.

  3. A screwdriver set - Phillips head and flat head. You’d be surprised how often these will come in handy, especially if you like to order furniture from Ikea or Wayfair. I keep a set in my garage and my car.

  4. Pliers are also a great tool to keep around. When removing a nail or simply trying to get a good grip, pliers make the job far easier - even if you don’t have the strongest hands.

  5. A level is a great tool for all of your building, repair, and decor needs. If you’re the type of person that can’t stand when a picture is slightly crooked, definitely invest in a good level.

  6. A power drill is also a favorite. Screwdrivers are important for the small jobs (and even some of the big ones), but if you have weak hands and a tough project, a power drill will save the day. Just be sure to do some research and use the correct bit before drilling your hole.

There are so many other tools that we can recommend to make your life easier and amplify your DIY goals, but these are the top 6 we insist all homeowners keep around.
